As the founders of Ultimate Trinidad Carnival where we take a group of fun-loving people to experience Trinidad Carnival, we think we know just a little bit about play (grin). There’s a lot of research about play out there. There are even companies based on the concept of incorporating more play as adults in our everyday lives.
What does play do for us? Some of the benefits are enjoyment, fun, increased love of life, and relaxation. In our personal opinion, making more time for play as adults also increases the possibility of attracting more good stuff into our lives as well. These are all things we can use more of everyday. So why not incorporate just a little more play into your life? Not sure how? Here are a couple of easy tips:
Play a quick game
Esha did this recently (unintentionally) and played a little by finding the panda in a stereogram. Know those annoying pictures with an image inside repeatable images that you (sometimes) figure out what the image is? Yeah, that’s called a stereogram! Who knew? Esha stumbled upon one the other day and actually found the picture in it. The initial rush of looking for the image and then finally finding it was pretty cool. She thinks she got some endorphins (a little happy feeling) from the 5 minutes that it took to find the picture. How cool is that?
Perhaps you really don’t like stereograms. That’s fine, maybe it’s a crossword puzzle, Sudoku or word find for you. It really doesn’t matter what it is, just find something non-electronic that you enjoy doing and do it at least once a week to add some playtime to your schedule.
Take a break
Ummmm and not to surf on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Seriously. Take 5-15 minutes to do something non-electronic. This is a challenge, but stick with me here. Give your brain a chance to unplug. Even a tiny chance to do this can refresh you and get you ready to tackle the next task on your list.
Read an article in your favorite magazine or do a little work on an enjoyable hobby project. You’ll be surprised at what you can do non-electronically in just 15 minutes!
Listen to your favorite music
What’s your favorite song? Have you listened to it lately? Why not take 5 minutes (or less) to take a listen to your favorite song? If you’re like us and have many favorite songs, then take some time to create a “play”-list. With all of the great earphones out there these days, it’s easy to tune out and get your dance on.
We command you to step away from the computer, press play and dance a little!
