It’s #throwbacktravelthursday! The Tobago Love edition (part 1)

Welcome to the first edition of Throwback Travel Thursday! In these blogs, I’ll be writing about our travels around the world from 2007 to the present. We’ve been to quite a few fun, unusual, off the beaten path places and I’m so excited to share them with you!

*sigh* beautiful Tobago

First up is one of our fave destinations on the planet – Tobago. In case you haven’t heard about this tiny, beautiful island, you’re missing out! Tobago is in our top 5 of destinations that we’ve ever been to and we (interestingly enough) keep returning year after year without a loss in enthusiasm 🙂

Where is Tobago?
Tobago is the laid back, sister island of Trinidad and is located just off the coast of South America (Venezuela to be exact) in the Caribbean Sea. While Trinidad is more of the “hustle and bustle” island, Tobago is much more relaxed in comparison and is more in line with what you’d expect from an island destination.

Nearby islands are Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Barbados. The main language spoken on the island is English and the capital of Tobago is Scarborough. Popular destinations on the island include the Crown Point and Pigeon Point areas (Store Bay Beach and Pigeon Point Beach respectively), the Argyle Falls, Speyside and Charlotteville, the latter of which are traditional fishing villages and are so peaceful!

Why do I keep going back?
Having been to Tobago every year since 2012 (plus a few childhood summers and a few more years before 2012), one of the main reasons I keep visiting is because my mom resides on this beautiful slice of paradise (yeah, it’s tough being her daughter – grin). Outside of that though, I love that Tobago is so peaceful, gorgeous and untouched. It’s not touristy like some other Caribbean islands – there are no Sandals resorts or other chain brands of the like – so you still get the lovely, local flavor and the people are generally so friendly and open, I feel like I’m home every time I visit!

Once I land at the airport, I immediately start to unwind. There are also so many fantastic villas on the island, that you can have your own little slice of restoration heaven while staying right on the beach (or very close by).

What can you do there that’s unique/special?
Well, there are many things. If you’re a beach lounger, then Tobago has no shortage of beautiful beaches where you can just be. During your stay there, you can literally visit a different beach every day; each one with its own unique character and beauty. Some beaches that are off the beaten path are Castara, Bloody Bay, Englishman’s Bay…the list can go on and on (literally).

A photo from my brother’s wedding…so lovely…

If you’re in search of a wedding destination, Tobago is a fantastic choice!  My brother got married there earlier this year and everything was wonderful, from the food to the accommodations to the beautiful beach ceremony complete with toes in the sand.

And as I mentioned before, if you’re adventurous enough to spring for a villa (girls’ weekend anyone?), you can find a property that’s right on the beach and it can be your own little getaway to bond with your girls.

Phew! That brings us to the end of part 1. There’s so much more to cover! Stay tuned for part 2 next week…

What’s your favorite destination on earth? I’d love to hear all about it!

Til next time,

Esha
